Eros + Melody #40: Funk Library

The Funk Library Album

I initially did a big write-up on this volume, then I realized two things: one, I am not as smart as I pretend to be, and two, peeps aren't here to read my garbage...they're hear for the music.

So, what we have here is not Library music, but soul and funk tracks imagined and arranged as such--some looped instrumental bits, some extended edits...one long and hot funk jam. I'm not a big fan DJ edits myself, but I think I treated these songs with as much respect and least amount of artificial intervention as I could in order to turn this into an instrumental escapade.

Eros Plus Massacre 2

Happy Halloween!!!! Spooky, scary, sexy! A soundtrack for a non-existent film involving satanic rituals, superfluous robed characters, medieval castles, all-too-obvious symbolic images of crucifixes and pitchforks, plenty of bad acting and...hot women making out in bathtubs? Oh, yes indeed! Treat yourself to this Halloween special. Just listen to what the critics have to say!

"Greatest Halloween mix...ever!" -- Some guy.

"Just ask me why I'm wearing this belt three sizes too small. I was listening to this mix and it scared my pants off!" -- Some other guy.

"Just ask me why I'm walking around with my butt cheeks scrunched up. I was listening to this mix and it made me poop my pants!" -- Yet another guy.

"Worst 'movie' ever, if you can call it that. But saved by this amazing mix! It scared the living shit out of me!"  -- Totally made up guy. As real as this soundtrack to this actual movie.

Well, there you have it, folks. No reason not to download this outstanding mix.

Eros Plus Melody Vol. 39 (SC 148)

The main goal of this series, besides the joy of compiling great tracks and messing around with PS to come up with album covers, has always been to compile a collection of tracks that represent the best of Library and cinetrax music. Though I try to bring rare tracks to the attention of others, I'd rather compile a collection that is representative of the music I love, whether it is rare or not. Like the name of this website says, it is a compendium of sound, and I hope I do this wonderful genre of cult music justice. Eros Plus Melody 39 is the companion to #38, a soulful album of deep, deep Library grooves.

Today the Strangest Thing Happened...

...I was looking over my blog and thinking, damn, this has been around a few years... I wonder if an anniversary is coming soon?... So I boot scoot boogied back to find the date of origin and, no shit, it turns out today, July 18, 2011 was the date of the very first post I made on this blog! And I had never thought of this question before... And whilst I was searching for the date of inception, I was thinking to myself, 'Wouldn't it be awesome if today were the anniversary...' I'm not making this up.

So today, being the three year anniversary of the immaculate conception of this blog, I'd like to announce that I have an idea...

...I know what many of you are thinking. The above announcement is cause for celebration in itself, but seriously, I do have an actual idea!

I'm going to make 100 Eros Plus Melody mixes! I'm GOING to do it. Surely you Americans have heard the story of a young Sufjan Stevens proclaiming he'd make 50 albums dedicated to each of the 50 US states. Well, I think he made just two... but I'm really doing it! I'm going to make 100 of these fuckers! It may take years and years, but I'm doing it.

Eros Plus Melody Vol. 37

Many wonder why I put the single track mixes up first and then proceed to torture the listener by forcing them to beg unceremoniously for the individual tracks.

I assure you there is a method to this madness: that is to allow the listener to hear the mixes the way I hear them, the way I conceive of them. Once I compile an Eros album, I ALWAYS listen to the single track mix...at home, in my car...strutting down the street. Making mixes is in no way an art-form, but there is a certain skill in culling, selecting, timing, and presenting songs in a storybook way. It is a joyful feeling to know other people out there are sharing the same groove.

I also want to give a shout out to a handful of rippers and sharers on several dear websites and a certain library forum to remain nameless, where a wealth of amazing stuff is shared daily and in generous proportions. The cult of Library and cinegrooveophiles is a collection of some really amazing people, several who cross over to this website. Thanks for all the great music.

This mix is one of my favorites. I think y'all going to dig this one.

Eros Plus Melody Vol. 35 (SC 144)

Funky Rob says something like, "Sometimes I make it fast; sometimes I make it slow." Obscure Afrobeat reference there, but if you get that one, good on you. Anyway, yeah, somtimes I make 'em fast, sometimes slow...wasn't sure if the next EPM would be in a month or a year...but the beats are coming in fast, so I've got to get 'em out!

EPM 35 follows in the vein of Volume 34...a serious beatalicious beat and break-fest! There's bound to be a few obscure jams that will be fresh to the ears of even the most hardened Librarian.

Uni and Multi-Tracks R Up.

Eros Plus Melody Vol. 33 (SC 142)

EPM 33 gives you a massive reach around... around the globe. What did you think I meant? You sick bastards!

Anyhow, this is the funkiest, porno-grooviest volume in the series. So grab a lover and groove to it if you're playing the field--or even if you're scoring alone at home. Whatever your particular persuasion, get ready groove your fuzzy balls off to this funky-fly groove bucket.

Throw me some feedback in the Comments! If you like the tunage, please say so and tell me what you like! I'll make it worth your while with some individual tracks.

Eros Plus Melody Vol. 32 (SC 141)

This mix has been variously lying around on my hard drive, popping up randomly in my car and on my mp3 earphones for the last couple months. I couldn't settle on a photo for the artwork, so it lay dormant to this miniature blog-world for a time. I was imagining something classically romantic for the cover, but had no luck finding anything that properly conveyed the music's image...until today. Woohoo!

Anyhow, this is the first Eros Plus Melody installment to have a sort-of concept. I say sort of because it's not strictly conceptual in that it tells a coherent story. Rather, it is built around an unknown-to-me soundtrack of which I believe to be of Greek origin (Any listeners who can confirm that it is Greek spoken in the opening track?) I have no idea where I got the soundtrack or how long I've had it. But once I discovered it, I listened to nothing else for weeks.

For EPM 32 I took several songs from that mystery soundtrack and built others evoking a similar vibe around them. EPM 32 alternately conjures romantic images of a Casablanca scene, two lovers at a bull fight, sipping drinks at an Italian lounge... the emotions of a deeply passionate love story.

Just the single track mix for now. If you want me to sort and tag the individual tracks, I'll be happy to do so...after the 20th Comment! (Yeah, I know, I originally said 10, but the comments have been rolling in, so it's twenty now! I want to build a community here, forge some ties with my masses...that dynamic will keep this site going strong more than anything.) Blackmail, yes, but that's precisely about 4% of the downloadership that each album on this series averages. As the Waterboy would say, "You can do it!"
